Welcome to Tree wRites
Welcome to the Tree wRites web page.
Everyone has a passion whether we recognise it or not. Passions put us in touch with the feelings of enjoyment, the rewards of feeling joyful and contented. Passions can inject a dose of inspiration when life threatens to pull us into the fast lane, bringing us added stress and challenge.
Trees are one of my passions. I have always been hugely passionate about Trees. From days as a child playing in parks in the Summer holidays, trees have played a huge part in my appreciation of nature. Many of us naturally turn to nature and Trees to de-stress and re-energise. I am amazed as to how to so many of us Trees are a source of great comfort. In my work in organisations and with individuals when we talk about the different ways in which we like to practice self-care and de-stress ourselves, being in the company of Trees is often high on the list.
Trees add so much to our very existence and the environment. Feeding us with oxygen. Did you know that one large Oak tree can supply oxygen for up to 10 people? As well as being beautiful to look at Trees are ancient historical monuments on the Earth. My love of trees led to a fascination with the legends and myths behind certain trees. Some trees have been known to live as long as 5,000 years. The oldest living Tree named Methuselah is believed to be over 5,000 years old. One newspaper report described her as grey and weathered. She is a bristle cone pine and legend has it that the Tree was a seedling at the time of the beginning of the building of the Great Pyramids and Stonehenge. The tree grows in a 28, 000 acre forest at a secret location of the White Mountains of California away from the prying eyes and hands of tourists.
Trees are one of nature’s greatest beauties. From the huge ancient Oaks, Baobabs and Redwoods that covered the earth’s terrain, to the sprawling green branches of Willow Trees, to mossy green and brown barks glistening with water on river banks, trees have coloured the landscapes of the world.
My passion for trees led me to explore and find out about the myths, legends. Stories and spiritual energies about the tress that inhabit the very environment we live in. Over time trees became more than trees as I marvelled at how you can learn so much about life from the very life and experience of a Tree.
This page reminds us to stay connected to the smaller things in life that make us feel good. Building on the word passion, pass-I –on I pass on the mythology about Trees that offers us the natural world's mirror on the journey and the cycles of the very life we live.

Jackee’s Favourite Recommended Tree Books
- Tree Wisdom, Jacqueline Memory Paterson
Although no longer with us Tree Wisdom is a wonderful book that delves into the myths, legends, medicinal and spiritual energies of Trees. Kicking off with her own inspiring Tree story this is definitely one for the shelf. Look out for the pocket-sized guide also published by Thorson’s.
- Meetings With Remarkable Trees, Thomas Pakenham
With a brilliant series on BBC2 his books cemented my love for trees. Thomas Pakenham, his books with beautiful photographs of trees and his amazing research of Trees around the world just fill me up. Beautifully illustrated these books are to be treasured. Again inspired by his own Tree story Pakenham has travelled the UK and the world to collect real stores and legends about Trees past and present. Look out for his entirely devoted book on the African Baobab Tree, a Tree that has fascinated me for years.
- Remarkable Trees Around The World and The Baobab Tree
- Also by Thomas Pakenham
- The People Who Hugged Trees, Deborah Lee Rose with illustrations by Birgitta Saflund
This book is worth it just for the beautiful illustrations. But it is much more as it tells the story of one woman’s attempt to save the Trees of her village. It brings home the political resistance of Tree hugging where women hugged trees as an attempt to stop them being felled.
- The Man Who Planted Trees, Jino Giono
For a while I really wanted to believe that this story was true. In fact some part of me still does. Without giving too much away it is one man’s story of his love for Trees and how he came to create forests on desolate lands on the surrounding plains of the countryside where he lived .
- The Proposing Tree, James F Twyman
Dashing through an airport in America I saw this book on the shelf and grabbed it without even looking too deeply inside. I devoured the book on the return flight back to the UK. It’s a heart-warming story of a couple’s relationship to a Tree.
