Moon wRites – Writing, Living and Being

A creative writing workshop for women held on the Full Moon each month

She is the egg and the seed of the world …. She is darkness as well as light. Her cycle encompass all moods and all phases. She is the queen of the Bright night and of Darkness, guide to the lost traveller and pathway to the underworld. She brings creativity and visions, she also brings sleep, darkness and death …. She is the home of the souls of the unborn and the dead waiting for rebirth.”
– Anne Kent Rush, Moon, Moon

About Moon wRites

Moon wRites celebrates the healing nature, cycles and rhythms of the Moon throughout the year. On the evening of the Full Moon - or a week day closest to it - women attend the 2-hour Moon wRites creative writing workshop in London, where we use the Moon as a guide and inspiration for our creative writing.

Against the backdrop of the Moon’s rhythms and cycles and a general monthly introduction to Earth and seasonal celebrations women engage in creative writing practices, techniques and tips - whether writing to be published or writing for pleasure. Each month, by following the Moon’s unfolding phases, we receive inspiration for our writing and our lives. She provides a mirror reflecting the phases and cycles of our own writing and creative journey.

Moon wRites creates a space where women can take a breath and self-reflect through the ritual of writing. Together, we have found that writing effortlessly teaches us so much about ourselves and the lives we are living. Moon wRites not only offers women the forum to polish their craft and develop their creative writing skills, but also to deepen their relationship to both self and others.

Each month women explore different creative writing themes either in the class or later on in the F.R.E.E. Moon wRites newsletter, which is circulated/presented online on the Moon wRites blog page. We take time to remember the feminine powers of the Goddess and archetypes that help illuminate our growth and development as women, as writers, and as creative artists.

Moon wRites started in July 2004 when I finally took action on a nagging urge to set up a women’s creative writing class that was inspired by the Moon’s journey. I had a longing to deepen my connection to, and to be more aware of the Moon’s impact on my everyday living. I found that many other women did too. We use the class for writing and creative inspiration, for feedback, for growth and to be part of a community. If you would like to join us please contact Jackee.

What women have to say about Moon wRites:

“I joined Moon wRites at a time when I recognised my need to tap into my creative source. I met other women who were like minded, excited and ready to uncover the mystery of their own writing worlds. I haven't achieved the novel, or written the autobiography yet, but I have developed a confidence in self-expression through words. On my own I probably wouldn't use the blank pages to create the dance and rhythm of words as creatively as the sessions allows me to. Moon wRites has given me a platform to begin.”
Mae Mcleod, Social Worker

“By facilitating a warm, safe, loving and very funny environment, Jackee bridges the gap between wanting to be doing it and doing it - dreaming about being a writer, wishing to write and writing. Making our writing class a ritual in itself by meeting regularly on full moons, in a circle of women from all colours of life, Jackee invites us into our space, to open up, to letting unfold what is within each one of us, free of judgement, full of wonder, surprises, tears and laughter and deep appreciation of each others’ intimate words.

Having experienced and touched my creativity and potential in this way, on those nights, with these women, I have the courage and the spark of simply doing it”.
Amely, Graphic Designer and Photographer

“Moon wRites provides an oasis to recharge myself creatively. Its an open, non-judgemental and nurturing space to just relax and breathe on the page in way that I sometimes find difficult to do in other group settings where I can become overly concerned about critiquing my work before its even had a chance to speak”.
Julia, Writer and Performance Poet

"I found my way to Moon wRites by a series of benevolent coincidences. I had been daydreaming about 'being a writer' for as long as I can remember and had decided to 'do something about it' and then the universe, as it so often does, presented me with Jackee, and her wonderful writing group for women - Moon wRites. I really enjoy the supportive atmosphere, the spiritual approach, and Jackee's coaching style. In a few short months, being part of Moon wRites has enabled me to actually turn up to the page and write. I may still falter, my resistance to letting my light shine and my creativity flow may still be immense, my discipline might still go out of the window, but I'm writing and in some cases being paid for it! Each month I come back to the group my hope and faith is restored and my enthusiasm fired - as Jackee so wisely says 'writers write!'
